📸 Planning a Surprise Disney Proposal? Here’s What to Know!
One of my absolute favorite things to photograph — and honestly one of the most magical things to witness 🥹✨ — is a surprise proposal. Whether you’re the one popping the question, or you’re hoping someone else is about to drop to one knee 👀, I can tell you this: it all comes down to the place, the people, and the pictures. 💍
When my own husband proposed back in 2019, it wasn’t on a mountaintop or with fireworks in the background. It was on a tiny, easy-to-miss bridge at Lake Eola in Downtown Orlando. Nothing flashy — but it was our spot. The place mattered because of what it meant to us. Of course, as a Disney-loving couple, we celebrated with our loved ones with Dinner at Disney Springs! (Disney has been part of our love story, every step of the way, from our first time hanging out, to the day he said he was falling in love with me, and all kinds of mushy milestones in between.
Disney is full of places like that too, which is why so many people dream of proposing in the parks. But planning a Disney proposal isn’t as simple as just showing up — it’s about knowing your soon-to-be-fiance and creating a moment that feels true to your story.
Here are a few Disney-specific tips to make your surprise proposal absolutely unforgettable:

The Place:
Pick a Meaningful Spot
Disney World is rich with iconic backdrops — Cinderella Castle*, the BoardWalk, a quiet corner of your favorite resort. But the most meaningful spot might be somewhere personal to you both.
Maybe it’s the place you first told her you loved her on a previous Disney trip or a favorite spot to grab ice cream. It doesn’t have to be on a top-10 list to be perfect. ✨

The People:
Include the Crew (Or Keep It Intimate)
Decide ahead of time who will be there. Some people want their friends and family close by to cheer and cry happy tears. Others want the moment to feel private and intimate.
Disney Parks and Resorts can be pretty busy, and showing up with a big group tends to draw more attention — so I usually suggest keeping it intimate in the moment, and then planning a celebration with loved ones immediately to follow. But in the end, go with whatever feels most ‘you’ and your story. 💛

The Pictures:
Book a Photographer You Trust
This is my favorite part (no surprise there). 😉 Most of my Disney proposal clients plan for me to “stake out” the area in advance — sometimes they’ll send me outfit details or even drop a live location pin. That way, I can hide in the background and catch every moment without blowing the surprise.
Whether you want me to jump out after she says “yes” or stay undercover until afterwards, we’ll plan a strategy so you get those once-in-a-lifetime shots.
📍 Locations: A Quick Heads-Up About In-Park Photography
That said, I do want to give you a quick heads-up: due to Disney’s updated policies, private photography sessions are no longer permitted inside the theme parks, including Magic Kingdom. I know — such a bummer! Some photographers still try to risk it, but I’ve personally been stopped twice and my top priority is making sure your experience is completely stress-free and enjoyable.
The good news? There are still so many dreamy Disney spots where we can create the magic — no park tickets (or park rules!) required. Some of my favorites include:
✨ Disney’s BoardWalk – Classic charm, colorful buildings, and gorgeous waterfront views.
🏰 Disney Resorts – Every resort has its own vibe — from fun characters to classy, timeless spaces.
🎠 Disney Springs – Vibrant, full of texture and color, and perfect for playful and unique photos.
🏡 Celebration, FL – A picturesque, storybook-style community near Disney, full of cozy small-town magic (especially around Christmastime!).

These locations give us lots of flexibility (and breathing room with little ones!) while still delivering that unmistakable Disney feel — so you get all the magic without any of the stress. No matter which location you choose, I can help you map out your parking & transportation options on property, as well as any restaurant reservations!
If you're still sold on proposing in front of Cinderella Castle, I totally get it! It's every girl's dream! In that case, I recommend booking a Capture Your Magic session directly from Disney. There may be less flexibility, but it's a great option!

Pick the Right Time of Day
This is so important. A lot of couples plan to propose at the end of the day — the castle is lit up, fireworks are blasting, everyone’s glowing — and that can be so romantic! But don’t overlook other options*.
If you have a full park-day planned, I recommend proposing in the morning! It means your girlfriend's hair and makeup is fresh, feeling good, and you can celebrate all day long.
Plus, you won’t have to worry about carrying the ring around anxiously for hours, with nerves building up, wondering if she'll notice the box in your pocket or if you'll lose it on a ride. 🌄💍

Consider Proposing Early in the Trip
If you’re visiting Disney for multiple days, I always recommend popping the question at the beginning of the trip. That way, you won’t have to worry about unplanned sunburns or end-of-trip tiredness — and what’s better than celebrating ALL WEEK LONG in the Happiest Place on Earth?! 🏰
Buy those bride-and-groom Mickey ears, snag the free “I’m Celebrating” buttons, and enjoy all the extra pixie dust and congrats from cast members and fellow guests!

Have a Celebration Plan
Once you pop the question, keep the magic going! Book dinner at a favorite Disney spot or a bucket bucketlist restaurant (hello, The Cake Bake Shop at Disney’s BoardWalk!), plan a Disney resort stay, or wander the parks together soaking up all the congratulations. Trust me — the joy will last your entire trip... and beyond!
Even if you don't plan to have your family and friends witness the moment itself, invite them to wait hidden nearby and celebrate with you after!
📍 Time of Day: Factors to Consider When Planning Your Disney Proposal
- Early Morning = Fewer crowds, cooler temps, and soft, golden light. Plus, you’ll have the area mostly to yourselves — making it easier to focus on each other and enjoy the moment without distractions.
- Late Afternoon = Gorgeous sunset views that add a warm, romantic glow to your photos. The light is dreamy, the crowds begin to thin, and you can capture that perfect balance between Disney magic and cozy, intimate vibes.
- Evening = Fireworks, twinkling park lights, and a cinematic nighttime atmosphere. With a bit of flash and creativity, your photos will have a fun, dramatic flair — making this an unforgettable way to end the day with a bit of Disney sparkle. 🎇
