Cold Sparks make for the absolute dreamiest photos, especially during the first dance! I had always dreamed of doing the “Dancing on a Cloud” with sparks flying in the background… so, when we toured our venue, I made sure that was one of the questions I asked about in our initial consultation!

They said yes, which was a huge deciding factor for me — so we moved forward with the venue and spent good money hiring a well-known DJ & special effects company to make our dream a reality.

Flash forward to my WEDDING DAY: my husband and I are getting ready to walk into our reception for our first dance, and the coordinator leans over and tells us that the venue has vetoed the cold sparks, claiming they never approved it.

Um, excuse me?! 🤯 Like, you waited until JUST NOW to tell us?! Imagine my surprise and disappointment when a service I had gotten approved and paid for was not being provided as planned.

Shoutout to our DJ @fyerflyproductions for pivoting on the spot and giving us an AMAZING outdoor send-off at the end of the night — honestly even better than what we’d envisioned. And shoutout to my photographer @therootsandstones for capturing it so beautifully.

Couples, two lessons for you:

1️⃣ Get everything in writing. (Sadly, this wasn’t the only detail the venue and coordinator messed up. I wouldn’t have booked them if they hadn’t said YES in our first meeting.)

2️⃣ You can plan everything, but sometimes plans change — be flexible! You’re marrying the LOVE of your life, so embrace the moment. Who knows, it could turn out even better than you hoped… or at least give you a hilarious story — like when my dress caught fire during our cake cutting. 😂 Want me to tell that one next?
